The Ladder to Success

South Africa has maintained their superb position of 77th in the FIFA World Rankings, behind international juggernauts such as Cuba, Iraq, Panama, Bosnia-Herzegovina and England.

As many of you are no doubt aware, FIFA rankings may as well be made up by my dog, but still.

I suspect that we should climb the ladder quite significantly and by the time 2010 rolls around, we should be closer to something more befitting of our ability. The attentive among you will realise that I am being very vague. The reason for this is that I don’t know what ranking is ‘befitting of our ability’. Maybe 77th is actually flattering.

Clearly Molefi Oliphant has no faith in the FIFA Ranking. He claims that South Africa will reclaim the AFCON. Well considering we didn’t even score one goal last time around, I say Molefi Oliphant might be suffering from Englanditis. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

Just play friendlies against teams that play like Canada played against you last month, and then you’ll be top ten in no time.

Hey Sam.

I like that tactic. It’s pretty much how USA was ranked 5th when the WC 06 tournament came round. No offence to USA of course.

But yes. FIFA rankings are stupid.
